BIG TUESDAY COFFEE POST

How is that +Russell Schrader :) Sorry, I actually got about 45 minutes extra sleep! YEA!! The coffee is gooooood this morning. I do so love that first cup in the morning, and second, and third and more.

Last night we had a fantastic hangout! We are still working out the kinks since we don't have the niffty tools to go "On Air" on a Google Hangout yet. We are not the 1% :) Must be a ubber tech celeb or make music that only 12 year olds listen to? Oops, was that out loud? :) But using other parts of online tech we are getting it done.

This morning finds me paying bills and trying to trim the fat. Not a lot to trim, but one has to do what one has to do right?

On top of that, its NOVEMBER! What a great time of year. I love the smell of a fall morning.

So what are you all up to? How is the interweb treating you?

So I have win 8 on my laptop

Just partitioned my i5 system and going to install it on the desktop. Can't wait to test out a certain beta on it once next phase starts up.Installing the ISO onto a USB stick. First time for doing a usb install of a windows os for me. Installed ubuntu usb before with 0 issues.

Good Coffee Friday Morning!!!

First, I am a SLACKER! I just realized I neglected to post a coffee post yesterday. HOW CAN THAT BE? Did a tear in the time space continuum open up? Did my dog eat my coffee posts? (looks at Faithy sleeping on the floor, nope), did the anticipation of Friday on Thursday's horizon blind me?

As Darth Vader never said. NoooooOOooOOooooooOoOooooooooo

I just spaced and blew it. Here is a cookie, or at least a Death Star shaped cookie jar.

MORNING :)

My plans revolve around
1) Job/work hunting (anyone need a logo/animation/video/website/blood? no wait, I am a wimp at giving blood!)
2) More administrative work behind the scenes for Redeemed.
3) Work on some AE Animations. Thinking about a new promo video using the Jedi Code :)
4) Read G+ throughout the day.
5) Scouring news sites for things to add to the TOR Hangout agenda for the 31st!
6) Nap :)

Think I found a good process for streaming a hangout in HD

My poor old Quad core Q6600 is on its knees mind you, but it works. Using Flash Media Encoder and VHSrcCap to get a very nice stream. Only issue now is to get the audio working so my mic goes with the stream. I have 2 sound cards but my brain hurts right now :PHope I can get this so we can free up another slot for he hangout. Otherwise I have to take it up on the other computer just for streaming. But it will get there.Oh how I miss my i7 iMac's processing power right now.

Fall Coffee Wednesday Post

Good morning all my friends. I sit here wishing that Northern California got colors like this in fall. While thinking about the great colors the news is showing a story about the Boreal Ski Resort up in the mountains above us using their snow machines to make snow. What a time of year. :)

Here we are half way through the week and it could not be better. To spare you the details lets just say its been a long week and even longer month. I have a meeting with a good friend, pastor of the church +Tanya Norton and I attend. Should be a wonderful lunch where we can compare notes on the past and see what the future could hold.

How has your week been going? What has kept you busy or entertained as we get closer to the end of this year?

Its COFFEE Friday

Ok, I think I need to go back and read my coffee post from yesterday. I THINK I said something about a good day and positive thinking. It was till the end of the day. Stress and some other issues made the day sort of end in a fizzle.

Today WILL be better and end well.

I will be spending time today cleaning up G+ Circles. Writing an article about using hangouts, doing a little LotRO, cooking dinner so +Tanya Norton can relax when she gets home from work (Love you hun, and yes, I am dense sometimes.) and whatever else I can do to start a great weekend.

RAWR Morning all.

Having a great week so far. Waiting to hear some good news about that possible position this morning. Heading to the dentist for some xrays but not worried. And finally got word back from the police about my report on my stolen iMac. At this point I doubt I will ever see my computer or the money but at least they want to talk to me now.

I have mixed feelings about this

On one had I have a few very good friends who only go by Pseudonyms and this will be fantastic for them.

On the other hand I fear it will open the door for more spam and fake profiles.

I understand peoples fears for using their real names. I do not always agree but I have tried to be respectful of their wishes to do so, as long as they can and do use a logical case for their argument.

However, just to let you know, I an others are more apt to put credit in your posts when we know its a real person rather than someone who hides behind a pseudonym for fear of being called out for trolling or bullying. That is my fear.

So this is a good thing but also something that we the community must try to police and not allow the cyber bullies to hide behind anonymity.

Agree or flame on. I love you all. :)

We made it to Tuesday!

I found this image of a mocha and now I want one!!! What better way to have coffee than to add some chocolate? mmmm nom nom nom.

Had a fantastic day yesterday despite my dental hygienist trying to crawl inside my mouth :) I have to say however we have a fantastic hygienist. She does a fantastic job even though it could hurt more than it did.

Also had a slight bit of possible good news. The possibility of the tech support job might not be completly vapor like I had feared, If this possition opens up it would make me, and +Tanya Norton very happy :) Will be praying.

Today brings some edit work and a little bit of LotRO.

What do you have planned and could someone bring me a mocha? K thanks.

It is Monday. Time for the first COFFEE post of the week

It was a great weekend and with all luck will be a fantastic week. Today I am <sarcasm> looking forward </sarcasm> to my second appointment for deep cleaning. This time the right side of my mouth. Hope I feel ok once the hangout comes along.

Going to work on some audio and photos this week. Let's see if I can actually sell some prints, that would be awesome. Going to work on my guardian in LotRO while we STILL wait for the 20th of December to get here.

It is that time of year when the temperature can't make up its mind. Cool in the morning, hot in the day. But soon it will be time for two pots of coffee a day. :)

Hashtags: how do they work?

I've seen many comment threads with people wondering how to get hashtags to link to their own search query when they aren't typed inline (i.e., when they are at the start of a new line and not within the middle of a sentence).

All hashtags need to be preceded by a space, including when placed at the start of a new line. Otherwise, they won't work. Google is aware of this bug, and they are working on it :)

Hashtags also won't work with text markup because the dash, asterisk, and underscore required to stylize the text with strikethrough, bold, or italics negate the leading space. You can't include spaces within hashtags (i.e., you can't make two separate words), but you can include underscores & dashes to connect those words if need be. Special characters like "&" will also break the tag.

I personally prefer to use all lowercase letters in tags unless there is some ambiguity with letters running together, in which case I like to use capital letters to distinguish words (called "CamelCase").

Here are some examples:

#test << No space in front of the pound sign.
#test << Typed with a space in front of the pound sign.
#test << Hashtag is negated because of the asterisk in front of the hashtag required to make the text bold.
(#test) << Hashtag negated because there is a non-space character before the pound sign.
#compound-words-with-dashes
#compound_words_with_underscores

Currently, there is no difference in results when searching for "#test" versus "test" (without the pound sign), but Google+ Chief Architect, Yonatan Zunger, says this functionality will change in the future.

How you choose to use hashtags is a completely separate issue. I've found that they can be quite helpful while still remaining non-intrusive when used sparingly. Too many hashtags can make passages difficult to read. I personally like to use 1-4 of them as "keywords" listed at the end of a post, but once again, how you use it is completely up to you.

Livecast Easter Project - Part 1

I have a project to get ready for as Easter rolls around this year. We joined the great group of believers at River Valley Community Church in Yuba City a few months ago.  River Valley is on top of using tech in the every day workings of the church, and are on fire for the Lord.  What a great mix.

Easter services will be held outside in our parking lot.  The biggest concern for us in Northern California revolves around the weather.  On many years in the past rain, or even snow, has made an outdoor service uncomfortable to say the least. In preparation for this years possible deluge we are preparing a way to stream the service into an overfill room.  Our Easter service is also a great excuse for us to launch our live service streaming project.

I will be posting some updates and links to software and resources as the project moves forward.  Please feel free to post in the comments and tips or suggestions as well as questions.  This is a living, breathing project.

Software

VidBlaster We will be using VidBlaster for our multi camera switching software. You are able to use it in demo mode before you decide to purchase it. I like this option.  Many churches/ministries never get a chance to try a software or hardware package before making purchase.  This can lead to paying way to much for way to little or in some cases WAY TO MUCH.

Flash Media Live Encoder 3.2 Live Encoder is the behind the scenes bread and butter app.  It takes the feed from VidBlaster and encodes it on the fly for streaming out to a Video sharing site or other serving solution.

The Video Editing Computer

I am installing both of these apps on a dual core HP Pavilion laptop.  Not the strongest computer but has plenty of guts to get the job done.

We will be hooking up 2 cameras to the laptop.  A consumer grade camcorder and a MS Webcam both capable of shooting 720 video.

Right now I am going to use the same setup I used for streaming Redeemed Point.  Everything was self contained on the laptop.  I streamed the video to UStream.  The issue I am trying to get away from at the moment is the advertisements that cover full screen during streaming with sites like Ustream or Livestream.  Trying to do this on a shoestring budget prohibits the pro account upgrades on these accounts.  The possibility of using a second computer to act as a live server is another option I am working on.  Still up in the air on which way to go.  I am trying to get this done quickly and do it right.
