  2. in me experiences in building communities and websites both for play and for paying customers, I see no reason they can't all share a no1 spot. Each will do you a great service and all do an almost similar job.

For me Wordpress is quick, easy and simple to use. there is a plugin for everything and in all honesty my no1 goto. I also use PHPBB for forums due to its support and simple robustness (I use it in www.torgamer.co.uk mixed with my custom build site around it)

Although I personally like clean, simple design where functionality takes president over form and as such have begun building my blogging playform that will house 99.9% custom code with tinymice editor being the only non-custom built component.

But Like I said the others are great platforms, and do similar jobs in almost identical ways. Try them and see what your preferred tool is,

  6. We use Drupal at work, but it does give us some challenges to have a non-standard drupal looking site. I personally use wordpress, but that it for a personal and not a business site which I mostly use to goof around with and test stuff out on.

  7. so by your logic +Gary Rogers so going by your ologic we should all keep away from programming just in case we create errors?

what nonsense! - Learn the code, learn whats secure and IF you make a mistake learn how it went wrong and you're already half way to solving the problem

  8. Any complex CMS is likely to have exploits pop up, as is true with any complex software. The key is updating when exploits are discovered, and some basic security policies.

  9. From a designers standpoint I cry whenever I think about making SMF or PHPBB look clean. It seems at this point in the game phpbb is winning by a slim margin.

But here is the project. What do we need for a guild site?
I have started a list, trying to find things we can use for it without reinventing the wheel, and then getting it launched.

Here is what I have so far on the list.

    News
    Forums (coms)
    photo sharing
    loot distribution
    recruitment module
    roster

Just the bare necessities but a good start. What I would love to see is a module for one of the systems that would gracefully do recruitment/roster and then SWTOR info once we have the tools.

Another system I would like to plug and play is a loot system. EVIL loot systems :) Suicide Kings or EPGP type system.
